This Suffolk-born solicitor is always up for an outdoor challenge. She’s crazy for horses, devoted to the region’s good causes, and she’s even scaled Ben Nevis.
Sophie Pull tells us why she switched from the idea of a career with animals, to a people-focused profession in law.
How long have you been at Gotelee Solicitors?
What was your prior practising or educational experience which brought you to Gotelee?
I finished my training contract with Margary & Miller, who later merged with Gotelee.
Had you always wanted to go into law?
No, initially I wished to pursue a career with animals, but decided after some consideration to keep this as my hobby. I am probably one of very few who did a combined honours in my first year of University of both law and equine! After my first year at University, I decided to focus on law, as I thoroughly enjoyed my degree.
Tell me a little about the area of specialism you have at Gotelee?
I specialise in Private Client work including Wills, Probate, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Deputyship applications. I enjoy the variety and the interaction with the clients.
And what are the key issues concerning that field of law which are particularly significant for businesses / individuals at the moment?
The law is constantly changing particularly when it comes to inheritance tax planning, and care fees planning, both of which are often a concern for our clients.
Do you see a ‘typical’ kind of client at the firm?
In our department we deal with a wide range of clients, from those starting a family and wanting to ensure their assets pass on to the next generation, to more elderly clients, planning for future care.
What’s been your greatest career moment to date?
Being admitted as a solicitor in 2014 was my biggest achievement to date, after 6 years worth of studying.
What makes Gotelee such a special place to work?
The people, we work together as a team to meet our clients’ objectives.
You’ll now be part of the new Woodbridge team at Deben Mill. What do you love most about that area of Suffolk?
I love that the area is surrounded by countryside, with a community feel.
I was also born and raised locally, so to me, this area is home.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I have two horses, who are my absolute life!
Other than the horses, I enjoy being outside and spending time with my husband, who often gets dragged to the yard too!
Do you support any particular charities or causes?
I enjoy completing challenges for charity; the last was climbing Ben Nevis for Alzheimer’s Society. I have also taken part in the St Elizabeth Hospice midnight run.
I volunteer yearly for a local event raising funds for local charities, including the East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Suffolk Punch Trust.
